Abu Dhabi: The UAE strongly condemns the attack and vandalism of the Qatari embassy in Khartoum, emphasizing the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings in accordance with customs and charters that govern and regulate diplomatic work.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) confirmed in a statement that the UAE strongly condemns these criminal acts aimed at undermining security and stability, and against moral and human values ​​and principles.
The ministry stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve a ceasefire, restore the political framework and dialogue, and advance the transitional phase to achieve the desired political stability and security in Sudan.
Earlier, Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the irregular armed forces storming and vandalizing its embassy building, the Qatar News Agency reported.
Furthermore, it confirmed that embassy staff had been evacuated and that no diplomats or embassy staff were harmed.
In a statement on Saturday, the foreign ministry stressed the need to insulate embassies, diplomatic missions, international organization headquarters and civilian installations from the consequences of the fighting in Sudan, and to prosecute the perpetrators and hold them accountable for the consequences. The foreign ministry reiterated Qatar’s position calling for an immediate cessation of fighting in Sudan, maximum restraint, appeal to the voice of reason, putting the public interest first and avoiding the consequences of the fighting for civilians.
The ministry also expressed the State of Qatar’s desire for all parties to overcome their differences through dialogue and peaceful means.
