HIROSHIMA, May 20 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the Indo-Pacific region is an “engine” for global trade, innovation and development, and its success and security are important to the whole world.
Modi said this in his opening remarks at the Quad summit in Hiroshima, which was also attended by US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

He also said that the Quad has become an important platform to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, and the alliance is moving forward on the basis of a constructive agenda and democratic principles.
“By working together, we are giving real meaning to the vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region,” he said.
“There is no doubt that the Indo-Pacific region is an engine of global trade, innovation and development,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the Quad will remain committed to human well-being, peace and prosperity.
The quadrilateral summit was held on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
Originally scheduled to take place in Sydney on May 24, President Biden decided to hold the Quad summit in Hiroshima after postponing his trip to Australia.
