Abu Dhabi: Here’s your chance to help recycle.
Abu Dhabi is encouraging residents to step up their recycling efforts, introducing larger recycling bins at central locations in Abu Dhabi City and Al Ain.
Color-coded bins make them easy to use.
Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) clarified in a statement on Tuesday that green recycling containers are designated for recyclable materials.
In contrast, black disposal bins are suitable for all types of non-reusable waste.
To ensure waste is properly sorted and disposed of, Tadweer has allocated different vehicles to empty the green and black bins. Tadweer said the recyclables are transported to Tadweer’s recycling facility for further separation, treatment and processing.
what goes where
Residents can dispose of dry recyclables such as paper, cardboard, PET bottles, aluminum cans and glass in newly deployed green bins. Single-use plastic products such as straws and plastic bags, food waste, etc. should be used in black trash cans. Additionally, broken glass and sharp objects must be securely packed before being placed in the black bin.
community recycling
In addition to color-coded bins for different types of waste, Tadweer has set up 20 Community Recycling Center units (CRC) across the emirate. These bins contain separate hatches for recyclable waste, including textiles, e-waste, expired pharmaceuticals, hazardous household waste, plastic, paper and glass.
“We are delighted to launch this new initiative aimed at enhancing waste segregation and promoting sustainable recycling practices across Abu Dhabi. With the introduction of larger capacity green recycling containers, we aim to encourage responsible waste disposal, helping Residents develop more sustainable habits.
“Our goal is to make Abu Dhabi and Al Ain two of the cleanest and most sustainable cities in the world, and we believe this new initiative is a step in the right direction,” said Nat Bryant, Chief Operating Officer, Tadweer explain.

Tadweer is currently organizing a city-wide awareness campaign to inform and inform residents of their new recycling options. Tadweer said that in line with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, the new initiatives aim to encourage the public to adopt more sustainable habits and establish lasting practices that limit the environmental footprint of individuals.
