SINGAPORE, May 29 (PTI) — Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong returned to work on Monday after he tested negative for COVID-19, seven days after his first positive test for the virus.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Lee wrote: “I am now COVID-19 negative and will return to work on Monday. Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes!”

“As COVID-19 remains prevalent in Singapore, we must continue to stay safe and healthy,” Channel NewsAsia quoted from a Facebook post.

Because of his age, doctors prescribed the antiviral drug Paxlovid, Lee said, adding that his most recent COVID-19 vaccine booster was in November.

Lee added that he was supposed to attend the bicentenary celebrations at Raffles Institution on Sunday, but his doctor advised him to “use this weekend to get some rest”.

On Sunday, Raffles Institution celebrated its 200th anniversary. The school, founded in 1823, has maintained a “strong ethos and spirit and built a reputation for student leadership, academic excellence and service” over the past 200 years, Lee said.

Education Minister Chan Chun Sing delivered a speech on behalf of Lee Kuan Yew at Raffles Institution.
