BEIJING, 30th May, 2023 (WAM) — The UAE participated in the 18th Senior Officials Meeting of the UAE-China Cooperation Forum and the 7th Senior Officials’ Strategic Political Dialogue held yesterday in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China. The UAE delegation was led by Abdullah Matar Al Mazrouei, Director-General of the Arab Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Forum participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Arab countries and the People’s Republic of China in many fields, and praised the depth of Arab-Chinese relations. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of both sides continuing to coordinate together to bring the relationship between the two countries to a new level, thereby contributing to further development and prosperity.
In his speech, Al Mazrouei highlighted the historical relationship between the UAE and the People’s Republic of China, based on a comprehensive strategic partnership that has witnessed significant developments in all areas, especially economic and trade. He pointed out that the UAE is China’s largest trading partner in the Arab world and the Gulf region, and China will be the UAE’s main global trading partner in 2021.
Al Mazrouei commended China’s strong support for the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) and commended the outcome of the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology’s two-day visit to China on 17-18 April 2023 Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Chairman-designate of COP28, and the mutual understanding between the two countries in the field of climate action and their keenness to discuss practical solutions to climate change issues. HE Al Mazrouei also commended the existing cooperation between the UAE and China on various regional and international issues during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2022-2023 term.
The Chinese side appreciates the close cooperation and coordination with the UAE in various fields such as energy, tourism, culture, technology and innovation, as well as the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the fields of space and navigation, and commends the UAE for successfully hosting the 2020 Dubai World Expo, and China’s active participation in this global event.
At the end of the two sessions, the minutes of the 18th Senior Officials Meeting were adopted, highlighting the achievements made in many fields under the framework of the Arab-China Cooperation Forum since the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Forum. The minutes of the Seventh Senior Officials’ Strategic Political Dialogue discuss a range of issues of mutual interest, including welcoming the UAE to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
