Sugandhi Mahesh Pillay, 40, holds the ticket number 1750 of the Millennial Millionaire Series 369, which her husband bought in her name on September 1.
Pillay’s husband Mahesh bought the winning lottery ticket in her name and shared the ticket with one of his Lebanese, one Filipino and 10 Indian colleagues.
Mahesh and his colleagues have been participating in promotions for about 15 years. They used the names alternately on each series of tickets they purchased, but when it was his turn to buy the tickets, Mahesh decided to put it under his wife’s name .
Commenting on her award, she said: “I am very happy, we are very happy! Thank you very much Dubai Duty Free. I strongly recommend others to participate in your wonderful promotions.”
Pillay, from Mumbai, India, is the 183th Indian to win a $1 million prize since the start of the Millennial Millionaire Promotion in 1999. Indians are the largest number of tax-free millennial millionaire ticket buyers in Dubai.
After the speech, the best surprise draw was conducted for the three luxury cars.
Jonathan Hurlock, 35, a British national living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, won a Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 4M AMG (Iridium Silver) car with ticket number 0172 Finest Surprise Series 1783.
Dhanasekar Balasundaram, a 49-year-old Indian living in Abu Dhabi, won a Harley-Davidson Sportster 48 XL 1200X (bright black) motorcycle with ticket number 0146 Finest Surprise Series 469.
Pakistani national Llewellyn Dsouza won a Harley-Davidson Softail Standard FXST (bright black) motorcycle with ticket number 0145, belonging to the Finest Surprise Series 470.
