“They still don’t allow us to enter the passport office,” Hamid said.

Residents of Kabul say that without passports, they cannot travel abroad for medical treatment, scholarships or other problems.

“The problem faced by young people is that they cannot get passports, especially those who are sick. Unfortunately, if a person is sick, it takes a year or more to get a passport,” said Najim, a Kabul resident.

“The government should pay special attention to it. Although they say they will distribute it, the process is very slow. I applied for a passport almost 17 months ago, but so far I have not received it,” said another Abdullah. Kabul resident, according to TOLO News.

However, the country’s Passport Directorate-General said the passport distribution process is proceeding as normal, with up to 10,000 passports distributed across the country every day.

“Passport distribution including the other 33 provinces is going on as normal. We distribute thousands of passports to our countrymen every day,” said Noorullah Patman, a spokesman for the bureau.

Earlier, officials at the Passport Directorate General said the agency was trying to increase the passport distribution capacity to 15,000 per day. (Arnie)
