Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced he will retire at the age of 41.

The AC Milan striker has revealed he has decided to end his football career at the San Siro after the club’s final game of the Serie A season.

“I have a lot of memories and a lot of emotions here,” the Swede said.

“The first time I came here, you gave me joy. The second time, love. I will be a Milan fan for life.”

“It’s time to say goodbye to football, but not to you. If you’re lucky, goodbye. Forza Milan.”

Ibrahimovic looked emotional as he was serenaded by Milan fans before being escorted by a guard of honor by his team-mates as he left the pitch.

The former United striker has spent much of the season on the sidelines due to injury and has made just four appearances for Milan, scoring in a 3-1 defeat at Udinese in March. Has announced his departure from the club.

He signed a one-year contract extension last July despite facing the prospect of a long recovery from knee surgery.

Shortly after helping Milan win the Serie A title, he underwent planned surgery on his left knee to repair the damage and instability caused by the ACL injury.

This means a long offseason, and Ibrahimovic did not make his debut of the season until the end of February.

striker with style

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is famous for scoring a long-range barb against England in 2012 – his fourth goal of the campaign in a 4-2 win over Sweden Team.

He started his career at Malmo and joined Ajax in 2001 after rejecting an offer from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

“When I was 17, Arsene Wenger offered me a trial at Arsenal. I said no. Zlatan doesn’t audition,” he said in his own unique style.

The striker also had stints at Juventus and Inter Milan before an unhappy spell at Barcelona, where he complained about how he was used by manager Pep Guardiola.

“When you buy me, you buy a Ferrari,” said Ibrahimovic.

“If you drive a Ferrari, you put premium fuel in the tank, you get on the highway and you hit the gas.

“Guardiola filled up the diesel and went for a drive in the country. If that’s what he wanted, he should have bought himself a Fiat from the start.”

Sweden’s all-time top scorer

He also won the Europa League and League Cup with United and spent time with the LA Galaxy before returning to the San Siro.

Ibrahimovic is Sweden’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 122 games.

He withdrew from the national team after Euro 2016 but returned in 2021 for their unsuccessful World Cup qualifiers.
