YAKIMA – Naches leaders are setting the stage in an attempt to turn the town into a destination for live entertainment and events with local and national artists.
City Administrator Jerr Ranger has been working to revitalize the Naches Events Center for more than two years after taking over the sports park from a local nonprofit.
This active area is only part of a larger project.
“We renovated the building, put in a new parking lot with lighting and charging stations. We renovated two ball courts, and we rolled six pickleball courts into one,” Ranger said. “That area to the west is completely undeveloped. We built a berm wall with foliage for sound and visuals. We built this area as a play area, put grass and underground sprinklers, all new pump systems. Everything was purchased and paid for from grants and Fundraising.”
With help from the state, they were able to raise money to buy a stage to bring live performances to a large grassy event venue on the side of a field.
All maintenance of parks and event areas will be paid for through ticket sales and concession taxes, not increased local taxes, Ranger said.
“The people who came down to see the facilities were really impressed, but we want more people. Hey, walk around. Come out and see. Please join us on July 14th, as taxpayers don’t raise taxes, but do a great job, and be able to maintain the facility for years to come.”
The first concert will be on July 14th from 6pm to 10pm with local food and drink vendors.
