Duck race draws families, institutions and entertainment to Sandy Hook

During the Newtown Lions Club’s 2023 Duck Race fundraiser, a flock of numbered rubber ducks got off to a rough start after being thrown into a rock formation under the Church Hill Road Pootatuck River bridge, but the previous activities and entertainment amply lifted the spirits of attendees almost No complaints.

According to longtime duck race organizer Bob Schmidt, 2,494 yellow rubber ducks were counted and loaded into barrel loaders, which transported them to the bridge. Those who adopted one or more ducks—whether they were awarded or not—helped net more than $10,000, which Lions clubs will spend the coming year on programs that support or benefit many local charities and organizations.

schmidt previously told newtown bee The Lions Club thanks Newtown residents and businesses who have supported the Duck Race for over 21 years, raising over $220,000 for local charities.

During the June 3 event, booths from about a dozen local organizations and institutions displayed crafts, toy boat races, samples and information about the organizations the participants represented. The Lions Club offers an 18-foot slide, a bounce house, mini golf and bean bag toss.

The following is the final official list of the 2023 Duck Race and the corresponding prizes – except for the first prize of the Lions, all others are generously donated:
