Islamabad [Pakistan]June 11 (ANI): Several flights in Islamabad and Lahore were diverted and delayed due to bad weather on Saturday, ARY News reported.

Several flights were diverted to Multan airport due to bad weather in Lahore and Islamabad, a spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) said.

A flight from Toronto to Lahore was diverted to Islamabad and another flight from Karachi to Lahore was diverted to Islamabad airport. A flight from Abu Dhabi to Islamabad was also diverted to Multan.

According to ARY News, the Lahore-Medinah flight was delayed by almost 3.5 hours. Another Lahore-Abu Dhabi flight was also delayed by three hours.

The Lahore-Karachi flight was delayed by nearly 2.5 hours and the Karachi-Lahore flight was delayed by 35 minutes. The Lahore-Jeddah flight was canceled for operational reasons.

Meanwhile, heavy rain and thunderstorms battered parts of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces on Saturday, killing as many as 28 people and injuring more than 140, Pakistan Geo News reported.

Twenty-five people were killed and 145 others were injured in rain-related incidents in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak and Lakki Marwat in KP, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Agency. At least 69 homes were partially damaged by the rain, it added, Geo News reported.

Fifteen people were killed and 100 were injured in Bannu according to the PDMA malfunction. It added that 68 houses were partially damaged in the area. Meanwhile, at least five people were killed and 42 others were injured in the Lakki Marwat area.

Meanwhile, in Karak, four people were killed and one injured. In Dera Ismail Khan, a child died, two were injured and a house was partially damaged by the rains.

Rescue 1122 officials said all of their Rescue 1122 sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are on alert for any unfortunate incidents. Rescue operations continued in Lakki Marwat Bannu and many other parts of the province after heavy rains caused roofs to collapse, he said.

According to the official, a search and rescue operation for Rescue 1122 is underway and all injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment after medical assistance was provided to them at the scene, according to Geo News. (Arnie)
