Matt Damon and Ben Affleck do not support the use of footage from their films, Air, By Trump without permission…
In a statement on Saturday, June 10, 2023, Artists Equity called on former US presidents to use their footage without their approval, via The Hollywood Reporter.
“We did not foresee, disagree with, endorse or approve any footage or audio from Air being repurposed by the Trump campaign for political advertising or for any other purpose,” the statement said.
“In particular, with respect to any and all rights vested in us under U.S. copyright and intellectual property laws, we hereby expressly notify that if the Trump Campaign’s use of Air’s material required approval or consent, we would not grant such consent.”
Movie Air Produced by Artists Equity, the production company Damon and Affleck co-founded in Fall 2022.
Air, Released by Amazon Studios earlier this year, the film is based on the story of a Nike executive’s sponsorship deal with NBA player Michael Jordan. The film stars Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, a key Nike executive, and is directed by Affleck.
Trump’s campaign ads used critical monologues from the film. “Money can buy almost anything, but not immortality,” Damon’s voice said, as Trump stepped from his helicopter to the camera.
The Trump campaign also used the location to solicit donations from supporters.
