UAE waives unemployment insurance scheme for Emirates Group employees

Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Group announced on Friday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) unemployment insurance scheme will not be compulsory for its employees.

The Emirates Group subsidiaries include Dubai’s flag carrier Emirates and airport services provider Dnata.

“Emirates Group employees are voluntarily enrolled in unemployment insurance,” an Emirates spokesman was quoted as saying. harrij times.

The social security scheme, known as the Involuntary Unemployment Insurance Scheme, came into effect on January 1 and will apply to all Emirati and foreign employees in the public and private sectors.

Employees working in free zones are now required to enroll in the Unemployment Insurance Program.

The scheme is a financial safety net, with Emiratis and residents being compensated for three months if they lose their jobs.

To receive unemployment benefits, workers must register and pay insurance premiums based on their monthly wages.

The deadline to enroll in the Unemployment Insurance Program is June 30.

Those who did not register with the unemployment scheme on June 30 will face a Dh400 (Rs 8,980) fine.
