UAE: Smoother Dubai-Sharjah traffic as two key road projects open – News

Have you noticed that traffic between Dubai and Sharjah has been smoother lately? This is because the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has recently embarked on two projects in the Ittihad Road and Al Taawun areas.

The authority said it added a lane on the Al Nahda bridge linking the two emirates from the Al Taawun area.

Al Taawun Street, which connects Sharjah and Dubai, has heavy traffic every morning and evening peak hours, and a large number of Sharjah residents drive to and from Dubai for work. These projects are expected to benefit motorists residing in Al Taawun, Al Khan and Al Majaz areas and heading to Ittihad Road and Sharjah Ring Road.

“As part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow on the streets and roads of the emirate, traffic improvements at the Al Nahda Bridge have been completed with the addition of a new 500-meter-long lane on the bridge to ease traffic congestion at Al Taawun Square,” The authority said in a tweet.

As reported earlier by Khaleej Times, SRTA has also completed a traffic improvement project on Al Ittihad Road, which will increase capacity for Dubai-Sharjah commuters and ease traffic on the main road.

It adds a 600-meter-long lane seamlessly connected to the Khulafa Al Rashideen Bridge (formerly known as Al Khan Bridge), which will allow smoother traffic in the direction of Al Majaz, Al Khan and the industrial area.

Additionally, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has allowed motorists to use the road connecting Ittihad Road with Al Mamzar shortly after the Salik North Gate. The road was previously only used by public transport and taxis.

The road was opened after the pontoon was closed for repairs in mid-April. However, the RTA later announced that the pontoon will remain closed until further notice.

“Traffic is definitely smoother now, especially in the mornings, because I usually get to the office 5 to 10 minutes faster than before. I know there is less traffic as schools close and people go on holiday, but Sharjah and These new initiatives by Dubai authorities are also good for traffic flow,” said Abu Hassan, who often drives to Dubai for work.
