Modon Properties has announced plans for a major project on Hudayriyat Island in the United Arab Emirates, which will include a Kelly Slater Co.-designed wave pool. Recently, there have been rumors that Kelly Slater Wave Company pool is coming to the Middle East soon, and now they’ve been proven right. However, the swimming pool is only a small part of a sprawling project that will span more than 19 square miles, about half the size of Abu Dhabi Island. It will also include high-end residential communities, a racetrack and a large urban park.
The wave pool, called “Surf Abu Dhabi,” was designed in collaboration with Kelly Slater Wave Co. and is expected to open in late 2023. Modon has boldly declared it will be the largest man-made wave pool ever built, as well as boasting the world’s longest ride and largest barrel. The press release also states that “Surf Abu Dhabi will provide an ideal location to host major international events and will play an important role in growing the surfing community locally, regionally and globally,” suggesting they may want to be at the new venue.
