Maryland [US], June 18 (ANI): Gujarat is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the royal family of more than 400 former Hindu princely states as well as Indian minorities such as Jews and Africans. Among them is Kenneth X Robbins, who has a passion for documenting, archiving and rediscovering hidden histories.

Robbins has recently published three volumes presenting his efforts to document the history of all the “princely states” of Gujarat using paintings, photographs, maps, documents and ephemera from his personal collection. He said he wanted to show the work to Prime Minister Modi when he arrived in the US for his first official visit to the country.

He added that it is his hope that through Prime Minister Modi, the Indian diaspora and the wider community of scholars will become interested in the history of Gujarat and engage deeply with and interact with the collections he publishes.

“Prime Minister Modi is from Gujarat, and my job is to really establish the importance of Gujarat in the formation of India. The preservation of Indian culture, the many preservation and development of Ayurvedic medicine, and the special contribution of a particular Maharaja a cultural icon,” Roh Binns added.

Over 50 years, Robbins and his wife, Joyce Robbins, have amassed more than 100,000 documents related to South Asian history, Africans in the Greater Indian Ocean world, and the Jewish diaspora in India and beyond items.

Robbins hopes that one day the federal government will work to establish, preserve and increase access to the deep and unique collections that were among the most prized possessions of Robbins during his lifetime, especially his studies of the state of Gujarat.

The historian’s home is almost like a museum, making it the largest collection of Indian ephemera outside of India. Their collection includes more than 100,000 objects, including books, manuscripts, medals, and fine art—telling the diverse cultures and traditions that find expression in India. It provides insights into many social and cultural historical topics of interest. Generations of scholars will find research topics here.

Last October, it was discovered that the Robbins family had designated the Pen Library — the library system of the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school — as the recipient of their entire collection in their estate plan.

Robbins also emphasized that the historical and untapped connections between the African-South Asian communities require cultural attention, and to that end he wanted to present Vice President Kamala Harris, who is of Indian and African descent, with a book about Jaaz in India. Book.

“I’d like to do the same because I’ve been doing research on Africans in India. One of my books deals with Indian and American jazz musicians. I’d like to be able to give Kamala Harris a copy, as I know she is my great idol Charlie Mingus jazz fans,” he added.

Robbins was particularly involved in documenting the history of Africans in India. “India is the only place where sub-Saharan Africans dominate non-Africans in many places, and we’ve documented that. The idea now is to talk about India, the global Indian diaspora and its interactions with other groups. And I’m writing a This book is about the interaction between Bangladeshis and people of African descent on five continents,” he said. (Arnie)
