The decision, disclosed on the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, said the reopening of the embassy was in line with the Al Ula agreement and the mutual commitment of both countries to strengthen relations. The embassy is scheduled to reopen on Monday.
“Both sides affirmed that this move reflects the will of the leaders of both countries,” the UAE foreign ministry said.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman regarding the resumption of the embassy, state news agency Wam reported. Congratulate each other.
The UAE and Qatar have been working aggressively to reopen their embassies as part of a broader effort to rebuild relations, following the resolution of the rift through the 2021 Al Ula agreement two years ago.
In 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and meddling in the affairs of countries in the region, allegations that Doha has always denied.
The dispute finally came to an end in 2021, when Qatar, along with other Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) countries, joined Saudi Arabia in publishing the Euler Declaration, which aimed to create a “unified geostrategic bloc” to address common challenges. Saudi Arabia and Egypt were the first to appoint ambassadors to Doha, and Bahrain announced in April that it would resume relations, including travel links.
