Emirates News Agency – Ministry of Community Development organizes self-assessment awareness workshop

ABU DHABI, 20th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Department of Community Development, DCD, has organized the first of a series of workshops on self-assessment awareness planned for this year, in an active effort by licensed entities to With participation, volunteers participated in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

In line with its role as regulator, the department’s workshops are part of its efforts to regulate volunteer licensing and create an efficient and effective volunteering environment.

The workshop was attended by Mubarak Salem Al Ameri, Executive Director, Social Licensing and Control, DCD, and some representatives of licensing entities in Abu Dhabi that use volunteers.

At the start of the workshop, Saeed Mubarak bin Amro, Director of DCD’s Social Control Department, welcomed the participants and commended them for their important role in advancing Abu Dhabi’s communities.

He also stressed that the workshop was only the beginning of a series of upcoming events aimed at providing relevant authorities with comprehensive details and awareness on the role of DCD in licensing volunteers. He also mentioned the importance of organizing volunteer work and fostering community engagement, which contributes to social empowerment and cohesion.

He added that the Volunteer Licensing Service is an extension of DCD’s organizational efforts to achieve the goals of volunteer work, while also ensuring proper compliance with Abu Dhabi’s regulations and legislation on volunteering.

The workshop included a visual presentation that shed light on legislation related to volunteering in the UAE, such as the 2018 Federal Law on Volunteering and the 2020 Cabinet Resolution on Regulations for the Implementation of the Federal Law on Volunteering, in addition to the introduction of the Volunteering Policy by 2021, The policy aims to promote voluntary work by raising awareness at all levels of society. These policies incentivize and encourage volunteers to be licensed, enabling them to form independent teams without being affiliated with any entity or institution other than individual and institutional licenses.

An explanatory overview is also provided, covering topics such as volunteer licensing services, steps to register as an individual, team or institution, and steps to post a volunteer opportunity, along with an explanation of volunteer vest guidelines and requirements for these categories.

In addition, the presentation highlighted the DCD’s control and inspection procedures for institutions using volunteers, setting out their rights and their level of commitment to the health and safety requirements of volunteers, and during site visits by monitoring and inspection teams. The presentation also involved a review of legislative provisions on penalties and complaints.

In addition, the workshop clarified the self-assessment form, one of the most important elements of the control and inspection framework developed by the DCD, which serves as a guide for the inspection procedures of entities under its organisation. Through the self-assessment form, entities can proactively assess themselves and check their compliance with the law.
