Summer solstice: Temperatures expected to rise today as UAE experiences longest day of the year

[ad_1]

Dubai: Get ready for rising temperatures today as it marks the longest day in the country, known as the summer solstice.

The summer solstice marks the official peak of summer when the northern hemisphere tilts at its closest point to the sun in its orbit, creating the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. This also marks a 2°C to 3°C increase in temperature due to the sun’s rays falling directly above the Tropic of Cancer (23.37°N latitude).

The Meteorological Agency said today was hot and humid for most of the UAE, but cloudy weather was expected in the eastern part of the country, especially around Al Ain and Fujairah. Those areas saw rain on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) daily forecast: “[The weather will be] Clear (clear) to cloudy with convective clouds possible eastwards by afternoon. “

Moderate winds could also kick up sand due to cloud formation, creating dusty conditions at times, the forecast added.

The maximum temperature reached 46°C

The NCM said the country is expected to see a maximum temperature of 46°C today. High temperatures are expected to reach 37 to 42°C in coastal areas. Maximum temperatures range from 41 to 46°C in the interior and 31 to 36°C in the mountains.

In Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra district at 6.15am, the lowest temperature recorded in the country in the early morning was 24.8°C.

Relative humidity (RH) will reach highs of 85% to 90% in inland and coastal areas. “Humidity will increase overnight and into Thursday morning, with mist likely to form in some coastal and inland areas.

The Met Office also warned beachgoers of moderate to rough seas today. “Sea conditions will be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf and moderate to rough in the Sea of Oman,” the NCM report said.
