Abu Dhabi: Tom Cruise arrived at the Midfield terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport on Sunday, where a key part of the film “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1” was filmed, which will open on Monday night Middle East premiere at Mandarin Oriental, Emirates Palace.
The stars of the highly anticipated seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise arrived on the first flight to Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new Midfield terminal.
To celebrate the film, Tom Cruise unveiled a custom Mission: Impossible livery on board Etihad Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner. As the film’s official airline, Etihad Airways will now carry the film’s branding on flights around the world.
The iconic building of the Midfield terminal has been decorated with a similar theme in honor of its role in the film, where one of the most thrilling and technically complex action scenes takes place on the building’s 315-meter-high roof taking pictures.
The film will be released in theaters on July 13, 2023, marking the first time the interior of the terminal will be seen by the public. Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 also featured purpose-built sets at the airport, including the Etihad First Class Lounge, as well as a stunning set in the Liwa Desert.
Elena Sorlini, Acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom Cruise, the cast and crew of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 Back in Abu Dhabi. We are proud of our role in the film and our contribution to Abu Dhabi as an attractive destination for global talent. The scenes shown in the film are a testament to the architecture of the iconic Midfield Terminal , scale and design, inspired by the cultural elements of Abu Dhabi.”
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive, Etihad Aviation Group, commented: “Partnering with Mission: Impossible is a testament to the Abu Dhabi destination and what it has to offer. Zabi and our team couldn’t be more proud to showcase the unique attractions of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, our new airport and Etihad in the film.”
Scenes filmed at the Midfield terminal required 21 days of prep, seven days of production on shoot, and involved 762 actors, crew and suppliers. This is the second Mission: Impossible film to be shot in Abu Dhabi. In 2018, the halo skydiving scene was filmed in the emirate with the help of the UAE military, Abu Dhabi Film Commission and twofour54.
