ABU DHABI, 25th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Sorbonne University, Abu Dhabi has announced the official launch of its Institute, a pioneering initiative to standardize and structure research activities while fostering collaboration and attracting international research personnel.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the witness of dignitaries such as Professor Guillaume Fiquet, Vice-President of Sorbonne University in charge of international exchanges and economic partnerships, Professor Silvia Serrano, Vice-President of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Christopher Cripps, Global Senior Advisor. The Sorbonne Abu Dhabi Institute was established with a clear vision to promote academic excellence, strengthen research capabilities and contribute to the development of the UAE. By integrating research efforts, the Institute aims to enhance collaboration, encourage interdisciplinary research and attract top international researchers, faculty and students.
The research activities of the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi will be carried out through the Institute, which is closely integrated with the Paris-Sorbonne Institute. Drawing on the areas of excellence of Paris-Sorbonne University and the expertise of Abu Dhabi research professors, the Institute will research topics of local and regional context importance.
The Institute at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi consists of four research centers: Artificial Intelligence, Gulf Studies, Heritage Studies and Environmental Studies. Each center has a range of research activities designed to develop and explore topics relevant to its respective field.
Professor Silvia Serrano said: “The establishment of the Sorbonne University Institute in Abu Dhabi marks a major milestone in strengthening research programs in line with the UAE’s vision. We are confident that this initiative will foster collaborative research efforts, attract outstanding talent, and advance research in the region development of”.
The Institute will serve as a collaborative hub, enabling local and global researchers to work together to make significant contributions to academic and societal progress.
