Ajman: A fire in a residential building in Ajman has been extinguished, the Khaleej Times reported citing officials.
The incident took place at Tower 02 of Ajman One Complex.
The fire was effectively controlled and extinguished by civil defense and police, and there are currently no casualties.
Brigadier Abdullah Saif Matruhi, Director of Police Operations at Ajman Police, said a mobile police station has been transported to the scene of the accident where locals can register lost items and obtain certificates. The mobile station also helped secure the site, Khaleej Times reported.
The Khaleej Times is an English-language daily newspaper published in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Emirates Transport Authority, in partnership with the Red Crescent, provided seven buses to transport residents from Tower 02 to hotels in Ajman and Sharjah.
The incident was reported days after data from the UAE’s interior ministry showed a sharp increase in the number of building fires. More than 3,000 accidents were reported in 2022, 2,090 in 2021 and 1,968 in 2020, according to official figures.
Figures from the ministry showed most of the fires were in residential areas. There were 1,385 fires in homes and apartments, 256 in commercial buildings, 153 in farms and 122 in public services. The ministry’s data did not say how many casualties were caused in the incident.
In April this year, 16 people were killed and at least nine were injured when the fourth floor of a residential building in Dubai was swallowed by a giant object.
