DUBAI: The Indian government has invited applications from eligible members of its expatriate community for homecoming scholarships.
The Vaishvik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Fellowship envisages collaborative research work between Indian diaspora scientists and Indian educational institutions, universities and research institutes.
Visit Adjunct Faculty
The Fellowship for Scientists will identify an Indian institution to undertake research work and may spend one to three months per year as a visiting adjunct faculty member.
Announced in February this year, the fellowship aims to improve the research ecosystem of Indian higher education institutions by mobilizing researchers from overseas institutions to India, facilitating academic and research collaborations with the best institutions in the world. Scientists, researchers and technicians can conduct research under the funding of VAIBHAV scholarships.
July 31 deadline
India’s Ministry of Science and Technology called for applications to be made through the Foreign Ministry’s Diaspora Engagement Division and said applications would be accepted until July 31.
“A total of 75 scholarships will be awarded each year. This will cover international and domestic travel, a $5,000 monthly scholarship, accommodation and contingencies,” the ministry said.
Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) are eligible to apply through the Ministry of Science and Technology website (onlinedst).
