The agreement aims to advance life sciences development through three “strategic pillars”, including clinical and translational research, capacity building, and technology transfer and commercialization.

Leveraging the UAE’s advanced genomics capabilities, it will also expand research in the field of genomic medicine and prioritize research on global genetic diseases in the areas of rare diseases, oncology, neurology, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Additionally, the partnership hopes to enhance patient access to innovative solutions and treatments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and beyond.

The research collaboration will focus on the analysis of whole-genome sequencing data from the Emirates Genome Project, the largest in the world, as well as translational research to develop new treatments, such as gene therapy and other effective interventions.

The parties will also explore opportunities to establish a joint laboratory and genetic screening program in Abu Dhabi to support the discovery of genomic solutions to international health challenges and needs.

Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Center for Research and Innovation, Abu Dhabi Department of Health, said: “Our partnership with iCGD reaffirms our strong commitment to improving the lives of people in the UAE and beyond.”

“By leveraging the UAE’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, we seek to facilitate clinical research and advance gene therapy to improve healthcare outcomes today and for future generations. Abu Dhabi continues to lay the foundations for an innovative and technology-driven future, cementing its position as a leader in healthcare and position as a leading destination for life sciences.”
