Trivandrum: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues and officials have extended their scheduled trip to the United States to Cuba. According to the plan, a large delegation will go to the two countries for a 10-day visit from June 8 to 18. However, the Foreign Office permission required for the visit is still pending.
Originally planned to go to the United States to attend the Loka Kerala Sabha and Pravasi Sangamam regional meetings. The visit will include discussions with World Bank officials in Washington. The delegation will also be accompanied by the chief minister’s wife, Kamala Vijayan. The costs of the delegation are borne by the Government and those of the Spouse of the Prime Minister are borne by an order issued by the General Affairs Department in this regard.
Apart from the Chief Minister couple, the team that went to the US included Speaker AN Shamseer, Finance Minister KN Balagopal, Planning Commission Vice-Chairman VK Ramachandran, Principal Secretary VP Joy, retired IAS officer KM Abraham as Principal Chief Secretary to Chief Minister, retired IFS Officials and state officials with special duties in New Delhi Venu Rajamony, Chief Secretary (Industry) Suman Billa, Secretary (Financial Resources) K Muhammed and crocusStaff to Chief Secretary Snehil Kumar Singh, Personal Assistant to Chief Minister virtual machineSuneesh. The visit to the United States will take place from June 8-13, after which the team will travel to Cuba.
In Cuba, there will be changes in the team, in which the Minister of Health Winner George Principal Secretary (Health) Tinku Biswal will join the delegation. The speaker and finance minister have been excluded from the delegation to Cuba. The center refused to authorize Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues to travel to Abdul Dhabi to attend an investment conference organized by the UAE government. The trip was originally scheduled to start on May 7.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to approve it on the grounds that the chief minister and ministers were not required to attend such events and an official delegation would suffice.
The central position is that not only political executives, but even officials, should travel abroad as a last resort. Even officials should be discouraged from attending international fairs, exhibitions, seminars and conferences, according to federal treasury guidelines for officials traveling abroad.
The center is also understood to be unhappy with states bypassing the MoEF to liaise directly with foreign regulations. With the Center denying permission at the last minute, it is understood that an official delegation led by Chief Secretary Vice-President Joey will travel to the UAE.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to attend an investment conference and debate with the public on May 10.
