Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) has further expanded its ‘Green Corner’ scheme, which aims to encourage customers to choose energy-efficient products in retail stores.

The plan aims to reduce Abu Dhabi’s hydropower consumption by 20% by 2030 – a focus of ADDC’s demand-side management programme, Tarsheed.

To this end, ADDC, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sharaf DG, one of the region’s leading retailers, to promote energy-efficient products in its stores. The scheme will cover Sharaf DG stores located in Abu Dhabi Mall, Al Wahda Mall, Dalma Mall and Mushrif Mall.

“ADDC is proud to be a leader in demand side management as we continue to develop sustainable initiatives to create a greener future for all,” said Saeed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company.

ADDC’s ‘Green Corner’ program uses the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority (ESMA) rating system to help customers choose appliances from dedicated spaces in participating retail stores. These products carry an energy efficiency label that contains information on the appliance’s annual energy consumption rate, providing information on the expected savings in its water and electricity consumption.

“This agreement will give ADDC customers easy access to high-efficiency appliances in the emirate and will also help lower their expenditures, protect the environment and support the local economy,” said Al Suwaidi.

ADDC plans, operates, maintains and owns network distribution assets and leverages technical expertise and best practice customer service solutions to interface directly with hydropower customers in Central Abu Dhabi and the Al Dhafra region. Through innovation and continuous improvement, ADDC ensures that hydropower flows to more than 600,000 points of service through a smart, robust, efficient and sustainable distribution network.

We take a proactive approach by actively encouraging people to invest in energy-efficient Dhabi’s Demand Side Management (DSM) and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030 supports responsible consumerism,” added Chief Executive Sharaf DG Nilesh Khalkho.

The program is designed to help customers understand the impact of their electricity and water usage and enable them to make informed decisions about the efficient and sustainable use of these important resources.
