Abu Dhabi Festival premieres trio with Islamic singer Mahmoud El-Tohamy – Music – Arts & Culture

“I chose to sing excerpts from Ahmed Shawy’s poem Wuleda Al-Huda (“The Wizard of Muhammad Is Born”) and Ibn Arabi’s Adeen B-Din El-Hob (“I Follow the Religion of Love”). way of introducing it,” El-Tohamy told Ahram Online on Saturday.

Commissioned last year as part of the 19th edition of the festival, the project commemorates the planned Abraham Family Home It will combine a synagogue, a church and a mosque in the interfaith complex on Saadiyat Island. The symphony has been released on the Abu Dhabi Festival’s YouTube channel.

“This is a testament to the UAE’s commitment to tolerance and peaceful coexistence, which allows more than 200 nationalities to live and work in harmony,” Abu Dhabi Festival founder and director Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo said in a brief speech at the beginning of the video.

Symphony for three: Peace, Love, Tolerance performed by the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, conducted by Diego Navarro, together with international composers, musicians and choirs from different backgrounds. The choir includes many famous soloists such as Venezuelan Pedro Eustache (flute/wind instrument), American cellist Tina Guo, Italian pianist Simone Pedroni, American trumpeter Wayne Bergeron, Latin harpist Lavinia, Egyptian Ibrahim Fathi (nai) Wait.

In addition to the Oriental Drum Ensemble, the program included a choir of around 250 singers from Egypt, Scotland, Israel, Palestine, South Africa and Lebanon, including Lebo M (South Africa), Sumi Jo (Korea), Lisbeth Scott (USA) , as well as Olivia Vote, Richard Bernstein and Brenton Ryan from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, among others.

The 90-minute Trio Symphony is divided into four movements: Earth (Darwish), Peace (Shire), Love (Debney) and Tolerance (Darwish), in which El Tohami main character.

“This symphony embodies my artistic mission to spread Islamic chants and Arabic fossa poetry in various musical arrangements,” added El-Tohamy, thanking the organizers of the Abu Dhabi Festival.

Under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Arts Festival, El-Tohamy has launched various projects, including his big october concert In sight of the Pyramids of Giza, where he celebrated the release of his 19th album “Aneen”. Aneen is the second album after Rasamtok, the second in his ongoing project to revive the standard Fusha Arabic in contemporary music.

Known for Qamaron and El-Burda among many other traditional poems, El-Tohamy, born in 1979, began his career as a child following in the footsteps of his father, pioneer Sufi chant Sheikh Yassin El-Tohamy.

He has sung Sufi poetry to crowds sometimes reaching hundreds of thousands at traditional Sunni Islamic events across the country, as well as large religious events in Cairo’s Al-Hussein and Al-Sayeda Zeinab districts.

In collaboration with Egyptian Grammy winner Fathy Salama and his band Sharkiat, he launched a project in 2018 called “Sufism and Modernism”.

He has also collaborated on various projects with the younger generation of music producers, including Rouh El-Maliha with Molotof, a major figure in the Egyptian rap scene, best known for Wegz’s hit single Dorak Gai.
