Yas Marina Circuit announced that Formula 1® will showcase nine traditional cars from the past 70 years in the finals of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
At the F1 Fanzone in Main Oasis, racers can go back in time and explore a series of impressive old F1 cars, showcasing how the sport has evolved over the past seven years and how the technology has evolved into a new modern car.
The cars on display include the Hesketh 308B designed by Harvey Postlethwaite; the 308 entered the market in 1974, James Hunter won the pole position in the 1974 Brands Hatch Championship, and then upgraded to the 308B in 1975 with improved body and oil radiator.
Also on display are Shadow DN5 and DN8 models. The DN5 was first shown to the public in Paris in December 1974 as a continuation of the Tony Southgate DN3 design. Although this was a very fast car, it was plagued by an unfortunate breakdown, so DN8 followed. It is similar to DN5, with a low monocoque chassis and a high cockpit, a rocker arm suspension at the front, and parallel links and radius arms at the rear. It was an immediate success, and the Welshman Tom Price finished third in his debut at the Dutch Grand Prix and went on to finish fourth.
Fittipaldi F8, Amon AF1, Maki F101, Arrows A3, Surtees TS9B and ATS HS1 are arranged side by side with them, amazed F1 fans.
