Abu Dhabi group signs Karachi port infrastructure deal

Abu Dhabi’s AD Ports Group, a leading global facilitator of trade, logistics and industry, said it has entered into an agreement with Karachi Port Trust to develop advanced port and terminal infrastructure at Pakistani ports.

A statement from AD Ports Group said the MOU represents a shared vision to drive sustainable growth, facilitate trade diversification, and strengthen bilateral relations between the UAE and Pakistan.

By signing an agreement with Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the group has taken an important step in strengthening regional connectivity and boosting economic growth in Pakistan.

The MoU paves the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation and increased efforts in the development, expansion and digitization of Pakistani port projects.

The collaboration covers a wide range of initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening port infrastructure, optimizing operational efficiency and embracing digitalisation.

It said the group will use its technical expertise to conduct feasibility studies and analysis to ensure the commercial success of the project.

A high-level delegation from the UAE visited Karachi, led by Captain Mohammad Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group and other senior officials, and met Faisal Sabzwari, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Government of Pakistan.

The MoU paves the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation and increased efforts in the development, expansion and digitization of Pakistani port projects.

“Our aim is to transform the container terminal at the Port of Karachi into a major hub for transhipment and import/export cargo, leveraging our group’s vast experience and capabilities,” said Al Shamisi.

“In line with our wise leadership’s vision for economic diversification, we expect this collaboration to propel the Port of Karachi as a global trade hub and strengthen its importance as a key player in the trade and maritime industry, further stimulating economic prosperity in the region, ’ he added.

KPT Chairman Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi said: “The partnership with AD Ports Group is a major milestone for the Karachi Port Trust. By combining our strengths and expertise, we are poised to unlock unprecedented opportunity for growth.”

He added: “Together, we will work together to transform the Port of Karachi into a world-class maritime hub that can effectively meet the demands of the changing global trade landscape.”-TradeArabia News Service
