Abu Dhabi hosted the Ethiopia-UAE Business Forum, which was attended by Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) Commissioner Riley Sineme and Ethiopian Ambassador to the UAE Umar Hussain.
The Commissioner briefed the forum participants on investment opportunities in Ethiopia and the country’s investment policies. Participants were assured of Ethiopia’s willingness to accept and support investors.
Lelise Neme also held discussions with a group of leading UAE investors under the theme “Business Opportunities in Ethiopia”. Investors were briefed on the support available to investors in Ethiopia and the ongoing reforms in the country.
Notably, the EIC and the Dubai International Chamber of Commerce agreed in January this year to form an alliance to market Ethiopia to investors in Dubai. The EIC and the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ethiopia also reached an understanding to attract more UAE investment to Ethiopia.
Trade relations between Ethiopia and the UAE have registered more than $2.5 billion over the past five years. As a result, Ethiopia’s exports to the UAE exceeded US$650 million between 2016 and 2020, while imports exceeded US$1.8 billion during the same period.
