“We are pleased to host the 2023 Korean Film Festival, celebrating the theme of friendship,” noted Lee Yong-hee, director of the Korea Cultural Center.

This year’s theme aims to showcase the power of friendship and the deep emotional resonance found in Korean cinema. The seventh film festival will feature eight Korean films covering different genres, each with its own unique story. It will kick off with Lee Jung-jae’s action thriller opening movie “The Hunt.” The filmmaker, who also starred in the film, gained global fame after starring in the lead role in survival drama “Squid Game.”

The festival also screened hilarious action-comedy “Mission: Possible” directed by Kim Hyung-joo, thought-provoking drama “Night Owl” directed by Ahn Tae-jin, adventure animation “Pororo and Friends” and other films: “Virus Busters”, The riveting drama “Confessions,” the action-packed comedy “Confidential Mission 2: The International,” the moving documentary “The Fanatic,” and the thrilling sci-fi action “Alien Part 1,” directed by Choi Dong-Hoon .

“Through these carefully selected films, we hope to inspire audiences to appreciate the value of friendship and deepen cultural exchanges between South Korea and the UAE,” added Hee, director of the centre.

The center is a platform to promote Korean culture and facilitate cultural exchanges with the UAE. Through various cultural events, exhibitions, performances and festivals, the center aims to enhance mutual understanding and appreciation of Korean culture in the UAE.

The festival is poised to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience, showcasing the rich storylines, riveting performances and emotional depth for which Korean cinema is known.

The festival will be held at Vox Cinemas, Yas Mall, from Thursday to Sunday 8 June. All films will have English subtitles, with “Hunt” and “Mission: Possible” also available in Arabic.
