Abu Dhabi: The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched the Al Nalia smartphone application to provide access to Abu Dhabi’s maritime safety map.
Developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi Maritime and Maqta Gateway – both part of the AD Ports Group – the app improves the safety of maritime navigation in the emirate and ensures the efficiency and ease of use of Abu Dhabi’s waterways.
Al Nalia was launched as a follow-up to the launch of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Safety Map. The two launches showcase a qualitative change in maritime navigation in the emirate, showcasing vital navigational information, including major commercial shipping lanes and connecting routes, speed limits, mooring and anchorage areas, and designated locations for motorized and non-motorized marine recreational activities, in real-time .
With its highly interactive interface, the app will help users directly search for the nearest marine facilities, including marinas, slipways, marine refueling stations, and locations designated for recreational activities such as jet skiing, marine water sports, swimming and surfing.

Named after the historic maps used by Emirati ancestors to navigate the local waterways, the app also features information about the harbor and pearl dive sites. The name Al Nalia pays homage to the heritage and depth of the UAE’s maritime history.
The app provides users with one of the most advanced smartphone maritime navigation services in the region. It also provides accurate data directly on global navigation systems such as Google Maps, enabling users to determine the best course, route and destination.
The Maritime Safety Map is available on Abu Dhabi Maritime’s digital portal, while the equivalent Al Nalia mobile app is available on the App Store and Google Play. Developed by Maqta Gateway, the digital division of AD Ports Group, the app makes the map fully interactive, showing users location in real time and advising them of any regulations in their current area.

The The app will undoubtedly ensure the safe and proper use of the waterways for all residents and visitors of the emirate,” said Dr Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director General of Operations at DMT.

The Maritime Safety Map was developed in close cooperation with Abu Dhabi Maritime and Maqta Gateway, as well as Abu Dhabi Environment Authority (EAD), Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), as well as critical infrastructure and coastal Protection Command (CICPC).
