The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE Writers’ Union on Thursday 26 May, coinciding with UAE Writers’ Day, to release the late pioneer poet Ahmed Rashid Al Thani Biographical narrative of Ahmed Rashid Thani, a leading figure in Emirati prose poetry. The signing of the agreement coincides with the UAE Writers’ Festival, which is also the day the UAE Writers Union was established during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair event, to give another dimension to the cultural presence of the agreement in the Emirati culture scene.

The late Ahmed Rashid Thani began writing poetry in the late 1970s and was deeply drawn to the Institute of Drama and Literature, known as the UAE, the GCC and the Arab world The “revival poet” of the poet community. He is honored for his extensive work published in many journals and newspapers, as well as other translations into French and German. His poetry collections include “Blood by Candlelight,” “Night Comes and Takes Me,” “Happy Here,” “The One Who Made Love and the World of the Sea” and “Clouds at Home.”

Furthermore, he is considered to be the most active, hardworking, productive and accurate among the UAE National Heritage researchers. In fact, the late poet left behind a unique series of printed and transcribed books, including “Ibn Tah: A Documentary Study of His Popular Biography”; “Stories from the UAE”, published in three parts: “Patient Man”, “Dadamis” and “Only Hamdan’s camels stay in the shade”; except “Between speaking and writing is the country of the UAE” and so on.

He also made significant contributions to folk poetry, working mainly in three fields; documenting the lives of poets, starting with Al-Majidi Bin Zaher, then Ali Bin Muhin Al Shamsi and other related poets whose life histories influenced him own work. The second is devoted to documenting Nabati’s poetry and trying to determine its origins, and to trace its development and its influence on the style, language and music of today. Finally, he studies and documents folk poetry by exploring the poetic texts of Al-Majidi Bin Zaher.
