The Department of Culture and Tourism – a cultural partnership between DCT Abu Dhabi and Miral recently announced that construction of the upcoming Natural History Museum is 25% complete.
The project was only announced this year, so the fact that we’re a quarter complete is indeed an exciting prospect, meaning the expected 2025 delivery date is on track.

You’ll find natural history museums in culturally meaningful cities around the world. As the name suggests, they tend to deal with Earth’s history – fascinating exhibits that showcase biological and geological evolution. The Yin to Dubai recently opened the future Yang Museum. Natural History Museums often display full skeleton reconstructions of long-extinct creatures, such as the famous ‘Dippy’ (Diplodocus) at the Museum of London.
The Avatar of Abu Dhabi will be located on Saadiyat Island as part of the Cultural District, a network of world-class museums, galleries and sites of cultural significance.

Thanks to a cheeky pop-up preview at Manarat Al Saadiyat earlier this year, we also got a glimpse of some of the flagship exhibits. Chief among them is a 7 billion (fact check: that predates our sun) space rock, the Murchison Object.
It joins Stan, a nearly complete 39-foot-long, 117-million-dirham, 67-million-year-old skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex — the fossil remains of the infamous Late Cretaceous apex predator. You might think that putting a dinosaur next to an object similar to the one that allegedly wiped them all out is “a little bit closer to a bone.” But they have 66 million years to overcome it.
Commenting on this important milestone, Miral CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi said: “Through our partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi, we are able to make significant progress in the development of this iconic cultural landmark. The Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum will Provide visitors with a rich cultural experience, helping to position Sadiat as a preferred destination and Abu Dhabi as a cultural, artistic and creative hub.
It also supports the realization of Saadiyat’s Vision 2025, which aims to increase the number of domestic, regional and global tourists and support the development of Abu Dhabi’s tourism ecosystem. “

teamLab Phenomenon Abu Dhabi
Scheduled for completion in 2024, Phenomena is the result of a collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi, Miral and teamLab – and as you can see from the renderings, the result looks set to be a masterpiece of engineering. The architectural marvel that the building represents is more than superficial. The futuristic space will span a 17,000-square-meter gallery area and will be dubbed the “House of Infinite Curiosity.” But what does this actually mean? It’s a really cool concept, and the series within it will be curated around the themes of “environmental phenomena” and “giving a new perspective to the world.” The real genius here, though, is that the exhibits will be influenced by changing circumstances and, like their organic inspirations, will grow and develop in imitation of the theme. Each piece will be designed to respond to its specific local environment within the teamLab Phenomena building, and the interactions it encounters. This ever-changing virtual world means that each guest’s visit will result in a different experience.
Zayed National Museum
after finishing, Zayed National Museum will represent an architectural marvel, a home fit for the inspiring story of our country and its visionary founder. This stunning building by Foster + Partners is located on Saadiyat Island, already a very important cultural center, including a 123-meter-tall tower. The main gallery will be dedicated to a collection of artifacts that shed light on various aspects of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – the man, and his leadership journey in national unity and beyond. There will also be gallery spaces dedicated to exhibitions on falconry and conservation; land and water; history and society; science and learning; faith and Islam; it will host the grand Sheikh Zayed Library. While we do not have an estimated completion date, work on the building began as early as 2019.

abraham family home
The Abraham Family Home on Saadiyat Island is a large-scale project with an incredibly inspiring message. Inspired by the Human Fraternity Document, overseen by the High Council of Human Fraternity and “closely followed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam” – the Abrahamic family residence will include a mosque, a church and a synagogue in the same space. Designed by architect Sir David Adjaye, the building was designed to embody “the shared values ​​between Judaism, Christianity and Islam”. The effort was first announced in 2019 by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, but the latest update gives us the name of the worship centre. Inside the Abraham family home, you’ll find the Imam Al-Tayeb Mosque, St. Francis Church and Moses Ben Maimon Synagogue. The aim is that this project will symbolize and inspire tolerance, solidarity, fraternity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

Residences at Louvre Abu Dhabi
The Louvre Abu Dhabi represents the cultural heart of the emirate, but after a truly shocking announcement from major local developer Aldar – it may soon be the center of your living room too. Once complete, Aldar’s Louvre Abu Dhabi Residence will be a 400-apartment residential complex with an iconic address, stunning sea views and one of the world’s most impressive collections of art and historical artifacts next door neighbor status. The structure will include Le Sal​​​​lon Détente – a lounge for residents featuring artworks curated in consultation with experts at Louvre Abu Dhabi; a 12-seat Cinema Privé private cinema experience; a wellness centre – Spa Bien-être, with its gym, sauna, yoga and meditation spaces, of course; and an indoor children’s playroom, aptly called the Creativité Room. It is part of Saadiyat Grove, a 242,000-square-meter, AED10 billion project that will also include retail and entertainment attractions, other residential properties, two news hotels and co-working spaces.
