Dr. Omar Kholeif integrates two decades of research and experience into his curation titled My Life in the Metaverse

A leading art expert will focus on the virtual world while engaging in debates around NFTs and blockchain technology, as he curates the Gateway exhibition, My Life in the Metaverse, to be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
Author, curator, broadcaster and cultural historian Dr. Omar Kholeif’s multidisciplinary exhibition covers sculpture, painting, photography, installation, video and NFTs in a variety of media, including an alternate self-guided mock tour of Dr. Kholeif Dr.O
Organised by Abu Dhabi Arts Organisation, the fair will run from 16 November 2022 to 22 January 2023.
Dr. Kholeif is Director of Collections and Senior Curator at the Sharjah Art Foundation. From 2017 to 2019, he was a guest curator of the Abu Dhabi Art Gallery section for three years. He will return to Abu Dhabi Arts Centre with a major exhibition exploring the history and aesthetics of digital culture.

“Bringing together my research and experience of nearly 20 years into My Life in the Metaverse, I hope to illuminate the possibilities of a freewheeling technological world. The show is considered the first in a series of projects exploring the prospects of our collective imagination. chapter,” Dr. Kholeif said.
My Life in the Metaverse features the work of internationally renowned artists, many of whom will be showcasing new commissions or artwork that has never been exhibited in the UAE before.
Artists include Sophia Al Maria, Cory Arcangel, Cream Projects, Simon Denny, Celia Hempton, Paul Heyer, Haroon Mirza, Farhad Moshiri, Trevor Paglen, Nam June Paik, Heather Phillipson and Andy Warhol.
Among the series of artworks on display will be Trevor Paglen’s large-scale sculpture Standard Head (2020), which recreates the equations CIA agent Woody Bledsoe designed for a typical human head in the 1960s . Nam June Paik’s TV Buddha Statue (1974-2002) is a Buddha statue looking at his own image on an infinitely looping TV screen, coexisting with Ani Warhol’s Polaroid photos, reflecting the birth of the selfie culture aesthetic.
Hempton’s paintings explore the culture and form of surveillance, while multidisciplinary arts collective Cream Projects will present a new commission, Too Many Humans (2022-ongoing), which has been reimagined as a metaverse by the company. Simon Denny will also be showing new NFT paintings.
