The Pakistani diaspora, including Christians, celebrated Christmas at the Pakistani embassy in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing messages of peace, love and tolerance.

Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, officiated the celebration with the participation of community leaders and pastors from different churches.

“The white color on our flag represents the role of minorities in various fields. All contribute to the development of Pakistan. We are a multi-faith, multi-ethnic society. Pakistan House is open to all,” Faisa The ambassador told the community members from different emirates of the country who had gathered at the embassy.

The ambassador stressed the importance of “promoting inclusion and diversity” in today’s world.

“I studied in a Catholic school. Eid, Easter and Christmas are celebrated collectively. This kind of inclusiveness will move Pakistan forward. This is the vision of Pakistani leaders.”

Later, a traditional Christmas plum cake is cut to celebrate the occasion.

Nasir Taj, pastor of the Royal Evangelical Assembly of God, noted that for the first time in more than two years, believers will gather without restriction.

“Covid-19 has separated most of us. So we are delighted to be together at this event and celebrate this holiday together.”

Priest Akhtar Masih of the Holy Fire Church emphasized: “All our followers are looking forward to celebrating this festival without any Covid-19 restrictions. We will have Christmas Mass on Sunday afternoon.”

Roheel Zafar Shahi, secretary-general of the Pakistan Minority Rights Committee (PMRC), said hosting such an event was significant.

“Events like this help spread brotherhood and love. We will be hosting events elsewhere in Abu Dhabi. This reflects the positive initiatives taken by the Pakistani government for minorities,” he said, adding that the UAE has more than 50,000 Pakistani Christians.

“We have a great community. We hope to host more events in the future to bring the community together.”
