Bollywood’s Genelia Deshmukh, Riteish Deshmukh, Bhushan Kumar, Anees Bazmee and Andre Timmins honoured
Abu Dhabi has announced that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and some of the biggest names in the Indian film industry have been granted golden visas, reflecting the close ties between India and the UAE’s creative industries.
This month, Yas Island Abu Dhabi proudly hosted the 2022 IIFA Weekend and Awards Ceremony, which saw the Indian Film Fellowship arrive in Abu Dhabi for a grand celebration. Etihad Arena hosted the 22nd Nexa IIFA Awards, but it wasn’t just the winning stars that were celebrated. IIFA is delighted to be working with the Abu Dhabi Film Commission to facilitate the process of issuing Golden Visas to some of the leading film industry members. The Golden Visa was awarded during the IIFA Weekend to reflect the organisers’ and Abu Dhabi’s creative industries’ commitment to building a legacy of success beyond the awards weekend.
Those on the 10-year visa with Salman Khan include Indian superstars Divya Kumar, Genelia Deshmukh, Riteish Deshmukh, Bhushan Kumar, Anees Bazmee and Andre Timmins.
In addition to being a long-term residence permit, the Golden Visa offers flexibility to work in Abu Dhabi and the UAE and does not require the holder to have a sponsor. Winners are nominated by the Department of Culture and Tourism – DCT Abu Dhabi, which oversees applications from professionals in the visual arts, publishing, performing arts, design and crafts, heritage, gaming and eSports, and media – and Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC), visas processed by twofour54 Abu Dhabi.
Khan has close ties to Abu Dhabi and has starred in Bharat, Race 3 and Tiger Zinda Hai, all of which were filmed in the UAE with the support of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, and he is the host of the IIFA Awards Ceremony with Abu Dhabi DCT, ADFC and Miral. The ceremony was held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island on 4 June and was attended by thousands of guests.

“Golden visas are a key part of Abu Dhabi’s Dh3 billion+ CCI investment strategy and we are delighted to be able to offer these long-term visas to our colleagues in the Indian film industry, especially with the emirate. This reflects the thriving Abu Dhabi and India The long-standing and strong relationship between the growing film and television industry, and our commitment to further strengthen that relationship.”
Salman Khan said: “I am honoured to be granted Abu Dhabi’s golden visa. Abu Dhabi has always been my second home and I love filming some of my favourite projects here. It is a pleasure to celebrate our film at IIFA weekend This place has shown us so much support over the past few years. Now with my golden visa, I look forward to returning to work here in the near future.”
Abu Dhabi Film Commissioner Hans Frykin added: “Abu Dhabi is an exciting place for filmmakers, with a strong ecosystem that allows local and international projects to flourish. Golden Visa Allowing talented individuals like Salman Khan and his actors, directors and producers here to realise their creative visions by leveraging a range of locations and facilities as well as incredible local talent.”
