Abu Dhabi shelter and humanitarian care center ‘Ewaa’ has revealed that it helped a woman who was a victim of a human trafficking ring that forced her to work in prostitution.
Ewaa said returning the rescued woman to her home country after receiving the necessary physical and mental treatment also helped her start a new life.
The center explained that the victim arrived at one of the shelters with bruises on her body from repeated beatings and sexual assaults.
The center’s medical team treated her, and counselors helped her recover from the psychological distress before returning home.
The victim said that when she was working at a hair salon in her country, a customer asked her why she was sad, and she told her that her mother was sick and needed surgery, which she could not afford.
The client allegedly offered her a job offer at a salon abroad and asked her to prepare documents. Within two weeks, she said she received her visa and plane ticket and was on a plane to her new destination.
The victim added that a man met her at the airport, put her in an apartment with other girls, and gave her some rest. The next night, he comes and prepares her for prostitution.
She allegedly turned down the job and screamed, but to no avail, as the man beat her severely and locked her in a room for two days, finding himself obligated to take the job so she could escape.
The victim added: “It wasn’t easy because I had no money, not even a passport. I was tortured and sexually assaulted for two months before the police raided the flat and rescued me badly bruised. I was sent to Asylum Center Abu Dhabi, where I received mental and physical care with other survivors. After that, I was able to send money to my mother for surgery and now I start a new safe life.”
