Abu Dhabi Shipyards: EDGE signs major milestone agreement of 1 billion euros with Angolan Navy

EDGE Group today signed a major milestone contract worth €1 billion for leading shipbuilder Abu Dhabi Shipyards (ADSB) to build a fleet of state-of-the-art 71-meter frigates for the Angolan Navy.

The BR71 MKII frigate is a highly sophisticated vessel equipped with advanced mission systems including 3D radar, electronic warfare suite, secure communications, main guns, and surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile systems.

Khalid Al Breiki, President, Platforms and Systems, EDGE, said: “The signing of the €1 billion defense export agreement is a major achievement for EDGE and the ADSB. It demonstrates our strategic approach and strong commitment to increase exports in line with the UAE’s national leadership directive .”

By exporting UAE-made advanced solutions globally, EDGE is developing the local defense industrial base, creating domestic value, diversifying the economy and positioning the UAE as a key global player in advanced technology and defence.

David Massey, CEO of ADSB, said: “At ADSB we are extremely proud to have signed a €1 billion export agreement. The BR71 MKII frigate is a highly advanced vessel capable of performing multiple missions to protect Angola’s 1600km coastline. We Looking forward to meeting the operational requirements of the Angolan Navy and strengthening its naval capabilities while expanding ADSB’s growth avenues.”

Operating out of its 330,000 square meter state-of-the-art shipyard in Abu Dhabi, ADSB builds frigates, offshore patrol boats and fast patrol boats for military customers and merchant vessels for the oil services industry. The company also provides a full range of maintenance, repair and modification, upgrades and conversions, and design and engineering consulting services.
