Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Justice Department (ADJD) has managed to reduce the divorce rate by about 6% in 2022, as domestic dispute cases ending in divorce fell to only 3% compared to 9% in 2021.
This is another important achievement in ADJD’s record of cementing a culture of tolerance and encouraging amicable resolution of disputes to ensure that family cohesion and stability are maintained.
The ADJD highlighted its commitment to promoting a culture of alternative dispute resolution as part of its efforts to implement best practices and innovative approaches at the highest quality standards to achieve reconciliation and amicable resolution of family conflicts as well as civil, commercial and real estate disputes, according to the Deputy Prime Minister and The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister in the Presidency and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice, promotes supportive initiatives to ensure social cohesion and stability.
ADJD explained that the decline in divorce rates is a result of ADJD’s Alternative Dispute Resolution department’s efforts to improve performance and develop working methods that are in line with the social, economic and technological development of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, a fact that has had a positive impact on the success of these resolutions This, combined with the efforts of family counselors to persuade parties to opt for amicable dispute resolution, has resulted in fewer cases ending in divorce.
In addition, ADJD has successfully resolved over 99.2% of the family disputes submitted to it for consideration in 2022, i.e. 15,606 family disputes, and successfully resolved 63% of the disputes in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi amicably.
The drop in the divorce rate is a result of the success of various outreach programs and initiatives run by the Ministry of Justice, including the Better Reconciliation (Al Solh Khair) program, which helped bring the divorce rate down to around 6% by 2022, although this A rate of 12% in 2018, 13% in 2019 and 2020, then drops to 9% in 2021, and continues the downward trend to 3% in 2022, demonstrating the proven benefits of processes and interactive programs.
