Abu Dhabi T10: Best way to stop teams from scoring is to get new batsmen on the field

The T10 format is considered the fastest format in cricket and is described by many players as the more batsman-friendly format. Nonetheless, a few bowlers did make their mark in their sixth season in the Abu Dhabi T10, Australian Andrew Tye being one of them.

Tye, who plays for Abu Dhabi, has taken 10 wickets after seven matches and is second in the tournament behind Morrisville SAMP Army’s Wayne Parnell with 11 wickets.

Speaking about the format, Tye said: “This format can really go both ways, the batsman wants to attack and the bowlers always have the opportunity to take the wicket. They are always on the attack considering there are fewer offsides , if you bowl as planned, there’s a good chance you’ll pick a wicket and limit the team. The best way to stop a team from scoring is to get a new batsman on.”

Abu Dhabi will take their place in the final and Tye believes they are not done yet in the tournament. Tye, who hopes they end up with a trophy, said: “We’ve been executing our plan as a bowling team really well in season six. Peter Hatzoglou has been good on the ball too. We’re working on a clear and simple plan and we’ll stick to it at this point.”

Tye also added: “A big part of our plan is to pick the early wickets and that’s why we’ve been able to limit other teams. I think we’ve got some of the most prolific bowlers in the game. If you take the wickets and test Opponent’s batting order, and you’ll make it.”

Talking about further tweaking and adapting to the shortest format in the game, Tye explained that it was to keep the pressure on the opponent.

“Yes, there are fewer turnovers, but our plan is to control the batsmen, get more runs and not give up boundaries. We are doing our homework, making simple plans and executing them well. Once We got some runs and the pressure was on the batsmen to up the ante because they were behind and that created more chances for us.”

“Everyone is doing a great job in this area, and it’s actually pretty simple overall as far as our program is concerned.”

Tye also spoke about the importance of bowlers in shorter games. “In a shorter game, the batsman will win you the game, but the bowler will win you the game,” he signed off.
