Not all restaurants recommended by the Michelin guide offer expensive food
Abu Dhabi is a melting pot of food and culture. According to Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, the capital is rapidly emerging as a culinary hotspot with a rich and diverse culinary scene.
However, not all restaurants recommended by the Michelin Guide are associated with expensive cuisine. When it debuted in Abu Dhabi, the guide selected four value-for-money restaurants offering three-course meals at reasonable prices. These have been awarded Bib Gourmand awards.
Al Mayas, Al Maryah Island
Almayass is recognized by Michelin Guide inspectors for its Lebanese and Armenian influences. Originally established in Beirut in 1996, this massive Abu Dhabi outlet in Galleria Mall (round booths are prized seats) continues the tradition of serving rich and appealing rich flavours and well-prepared dishes.
Otoro, Arcana
Otoro has been awarded Bib Gourmand for its rendition of contemporary Japanese cuisine, with signature dishes such as: yellowtail carpaccio, tuna tartare with yuzu sauce and the veritable otoro nigiri, to name a few. This is a spacious, relaxed space with a hipster feel at Al Qana Marina South on Al Maqta Street.
Beirut Sulmer, Saadiyat Island
Beirut Sulmer is all about enjoying Lebanese food by the sea. This restaurant has won awards for its classic cuisine from mezze to Mashawi. The spacious and colourful modern restaurant also has a beautiful waterfront terrace. After visiting the Louvre Abu Dhabi in the nearby Saadiyat Cultural District, this is the perfect place to fuel up post-culture.
Tazar, Arcana
Tazal’s Mediterranean cuisine is an exhilarating blend of European and Arabic flavours. Dishes such as Tanja Pork Ribs and Zaatar Snapper are as delicious as the original. Apart from Otoro, this is the second Bib Gourmand restaurant to win the Al Qana Marina South.
