The prime minister said he was pleased to hear that Chiang Mai was named the safest city in Southeast Asia by database platform Numbeo, placing the city at 32nd out of 416 cities on the list.
Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was satisfied with the ranking and praised all relevant agencies for ensuring the safety of the northern city, which has earned Chiang Mai the trust of foreigners.
Numbeo is the world’s largest user-contributed database of global city and country data. It provides current and timely information on the state of life in the world, including cost of living, housing indicators, healthcare, traffic, crime and pollution.
According to the Numbeo website, Chiang Mai scored 75.5 points for safety, the highest in Southeast Asia, followed by Davao in the Philippines and Singapore.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates topped the list of the safest cities with a score of 88.8, while Caracas in Venezuela was the least safe. (NNT)
