The woman was earlier convicted in absentia by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court after being convicted of insulting a man and breaking online laws.
A woman who sent offensive messages to a man via WhatsApp has been directed to pay him Dh23,000 for damages.
The man filed a lawsuit against the woman seeking Dh600,000 for the mental and material damage he allegedly suffered as a result of the woman’s abusive messages, court documents said.
The man said in the lawsuit that the woman had a psychological effect on him by insulting and verbally calling him through WhatsApp messages.
Abusive and insulting messages also damaged the man’s reputation among the people and colleagues.
The woman was earlier convicted in absentia by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court after being convicted of insulting a man and breaking cyber laws. The court has fined the woman Dh5,000.
After the ruling, the man went to civil court to file a claim for compensation.
After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court ordered the woman to pay the man Dh23,000 in addition to his legal costs.
