Abu Dhabi’s Rail-less Trains: All You Need to Know

A unique mode of transportation has garnered attention in Abu Dhabi recently, with rail-less trains operating on the island’s streets. Referred to as Automated Rapid Transport (ART), this innovative three-carriage system is being introduced by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), offering an eco-friendly and efficient public transportation option for both residents and visitors.

ART can be described as a hybrid between buses and trams. Each electric bus can accommodate up to 200 passengers and is operated by a driver. During the pilot phase, the ART system serves 25 stations, covering a route of approximately 27km from Al Reem Mall to Marina Mall, traveling along key streets like Zayed the First Street and the Corniche Street on Abu Dhabi Island.

The buses do not operate on dedicated tracks; instead, they follow standard traffic rules while traversing the main roads of Abu Dhabi Island. Currently, the ART system is operational from Friday to Sunday.
