The announcement comes as President Biden is under tremendous pressure to intensify efforts to cancel more student loan debt-because the current suspension of federal student loan payments is coming to an end. As we reported earlier this month, the Biden administration is waiving the financial student loan debt burden for 323,000 people because their $5.8 billion student loan debt will be automatically cancelled to people with severe disabilities.
The debt will be terminated through the Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) release plan. According to the terms of the plan, persons with disabilities who “cannot maintain a large number of paid jobs due to physical or psychological medical barriers” will be exempted from their debts.
