Actor Alec Baldwin dies after firing a prop gun in a movie scene: Police-News

[ad_1]

U.S. law enforcement officials said on Thursday that American actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed a photographer and wounded the director in a film in New Mexico.

The incident took place on the “Rust” set in the southwestern state of the United States, where Baldwin starred in a 19th-century Western.

The Santa Fe sheriff said in a statement that Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza were “shot when Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun.”

42-year-old Hutchins was taken to the hospital by helicopter but died from his injuries, while 48-year-old Suza was taken away by ambulance and is being treated.

No allegations have been made about the incident. The incident is under investigation and witness interviews are in progress.

A spokesperson for the show told The Hollywood Reporter that the “accident” involved a fire of a prop gun with a cartridge case.

A spokesperson for the sheriff told the publication that the director was in a “critical state.”

The incident took place at Bonanza Creek Ranch, a production location close to Santa Fe and popular with Hollywood filmmakers.

Movie sets usually have strict regulations on the use of prop weapons, but accidents happen from time to time.

The most famous is that Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, was shot and killed by a gun that should have fired a blank while filming “The Crow.”

Baldwin co-produced the film and played Harland Rust. His grandson was convicted of murder. When the boy was sentenced to hang, he fled with him.

The 63-year-old posted a photo on Instagram earlier on Thursday that showed him apparently on the set, wearing a period costume and fake blood on his shirt.

“Go back to the office and face to face. OMG… so tired,” he captioned the photo, which went online a few hours before the incident.

Baldwin has been in TV and movies since the 1980s.

Baldwin has starred in many high-profile movies, including two iterations of the “Red October” and “Mission Impossible” series, and has voiced animated characters in popular movies such as “Boss Baby”.

His long-term role as Donald Trump in “Saturday Night Live” won new fans. This role angered the former president, but Baldwin won the Primetime Emmy Award.

“Rust” also starred Jensen Ackles (“Supernaturals”) and Travis Fimmel, the latter famous for playing Ragnar Lothbrok in “The Vikings.”

The Bonanza Creek Ranch where the incident took place on Thursday has hosted works including “The Enemy”, “Cowboys and Aliens”, “3:10 to Yuma”, “Appaloosa” and “Longmire”.
