AD Ports signs global pharmaceutical freight forwarding agreement with Acino

Leading Swiss pharmaceutical group Acino has signed AD Ports Logistics (ADPL), a subsidiary of AD Ports Group’s logistics cluster, to provide global freight forwarding services, including sea and air freight for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena)

Under the agreement, ADPL will utilize its fully integrated and GDP-certified end-to-end pharmaceutical cold chain capabilities to transport vital pharmaceuticals from Acino’s global origins to markets in the MENA region.

Pharmaceuticals will require specialized shipping and handling capabilities from ADPL’s Healthcare and Life Sciences division.

Under the terms of the agreement, the scope of freight forwarding services will include first-mile transportation, seaport and airport loading, customs clearance and last-mile logistics.

Farook Al Zeer, Chairman, Logistics Cluster, AD Ports Group, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Acino’s partners as the pharmaceutical logistics provider.”

He noted: “This agreement is an important growth opportunity for our Healthcare and Life Sciences segment as it enables us to partner with a leading global pharmaceutical manufacturer and demonstrates our capabilities as a global trade and logistics enabler .”

Andrew Bird, Interim CEO of Acino, said: “Our partnership with AD Ports Group strengthens our commitment to the MENA region, expanding our services and improving patients’ access to quality healthcare.”

As a member of the HOPE Alliance (an Abu Dhabi-led public-private partnership established to combat the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic), its services have helped safely distribute over 260 million doses of Covid-19 to over 65 countries around the world -19 vaccine. The hub is located at Kaizad, Abu Dhabi.

Currently, ADPL is a one-stop shop for a suite of healthcare business solutions, including freight forwarding; contract logistics; transportation; and distribution solutions – including regulatory and quality compliance, commercial support and market access.

Due to the joint ownership of the two entities, ADPL and Acino will synergistically leverage collaboration within ADQ’s shared network of portfolio companies, unlocking greater value and enabling seamless integration for the benefit of clients.

Since its inception in 2020, ADPL has partnered with leaders in international logistics to develop one of the most integrated pharmaceutical supply chains in the world, capable of transporting products at storage temperatures from -80°C to +25°C.
