Afghanistan: Taliban raid Da’esh hideout north of Kabul-News

[ad_1]

The spokesperson said that Friday’s raid took place in the city of Charricar in Parvang province.

A Taliban spokesperson said that on Friday, Taliban militants raided a hideout in Da’esh, northern Afghan capital, killing and arresting an unknown number of militants.

Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in mid-August, there has been an increase in attacks by Daesh militants against Taliban members. The Taliban and Da’esh are enemies, and the attack has triggered the specter of a wider conflict between long-standing opponents.

In late August, a Daesh suicide bomber targeted the U.S. evacuation operation outside Kabul International Airport. This was one of the deadliest attacks in the country in years. The explosion killed 169 Afghans and 13 American soldiers.

Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi told the Associated Press that Friday’s attack occurred in Charikar City, Parwan Province. He did not provide more details and was unable to independently verify his statement.

Karimi said the attack was carried out after the Taliban arrested two members of the Islamic State in connection with a roadside bomb attack that targeted their vehicles in the city and wounded four fighters. He added that the two were questioned and the information they provided helped the Taliban determine where they were hiding.

The Islamic State is mainly located in the eastern part of Nangarhar Province, but since the Taliban took over, the organization has intensified its attacks in various parts of Afghanistan. Several Taliban fighters were killed in the Da’esh attack in Jalalabad, the provincial capital. In response, the Taliban cracked down in Nangarhar.
