Agthia Group, one of the Middle East’s leading food and beverage companies, has launched its first e-commerce marketplace (eZad) dedicated to date trading.
The Wam news agency reported that this alternative sales channel is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Agthia subsidiary Al Foah and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), making it a transparent, trustworthy and credible platform.
The online auction platform aims to connect wholesale date buyers around the world with sellers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. eZad guarantees that this will give their products access to regional and international markets. It is a comprehensive, full-service online marketplace that allows sales, purchases and machining operations to be done in a transparent manner and ensures the highest and fairest profits.
During the trial run of eZad, the platform attracted 1,200 buyers and was able to sell 120 tons of dates. Since the announcement of the partnership with ADAFSA, eZad has seen a dramatic increase in buyer and seller interest, with the number of registered sellers reaching 2,400.
The platform provides buyers with benefits including an internationally recognized dated quality certificate, no inspection and travel requirements based on uniform scientific standards, and additional after-sales services.
“We are delighted with the launch of the eZad platform,” said Mubarak Ali Al Qusaili Al Mansoori, ADAFSA’s Executive Director of Agricultural Affairs, describing it as an innovative electronic marketing channel that provides farmers and date producers with the opportunity to buy and sell dates wholesale. He explained that opening up unconventional marketing channels will increase the competitiveness of UAE dates locally and globally, which can transform date cultivation into a strategic economic activity that supports sustainable agricultural development.
Al Mansoori noted that the authorities paid particular attention to palm and date production because of their historical value and a key driver of the country’s food security system.
Mubarak Huthaili Al Mansoori, Chief Corporate Services Officer, Agthia Group said: “We are proud to launch eZad, a unique and innovative platform that brings together dating buyers and sellers from all over the world. It is the easiest and most efficient way to transact Selling dates electronically gives date sellers access to the global market and gives buyers around the world the opportunity to buy the best dates on the market.”
He added that field auctions will be added at four locations at the Al Foah Reception Centre this season. This enables farmers to provide dates for local and international sales through the eZad platform.
Regarding registration on the eZad platform, Al Mansoori said that registration can be done online from anywhere in the world by filling out an electronic form and uploading the required documents. He said dates on eZad were sold through an online auction lasting six hours between 12pm and 6pm UAE time.
Buyers must fund their wallets before the auction. Sellers will be able to list minimum starting prices. The highest bidder will win the auction, at which time 20% of the winning bid will be deducted. The buyer will have five days to pay the remaining amount.
